Our Story
read moreBrobst Violin Shop was founded in 1966 by Loren and Gerald Brobst, father and son. Loren had a natural talent for design, construction, and fabrication and worked as an industrial engineer in the steel industry. He was an accomplished craftsman with a keen interest in the inner workings of everything. This fueled his interest in repair and restoration which became a key element in the formation of our company. Gerald shared many of his father's interests and abilities in addition to a passion for the violin.
Violins
read moreThe violin is unique in the musical instrument world. It is the one that most closely resembles the human voice. The violin is described in terms of its power, response, balance, sensitivity, complexity and visual beauty. Often the words used are the same that describe our senses of hearing, sight, taste and touch. Each violin has its own personality, its own voice and visual character. Since it was first created, the violin has been the voice and the companion of the musician as well as an object of art and investment.
Cellos
read moreResonance, warmth, power, sweetness, clarity and balance are a few of the words we use to describe the sound qualities that we look for in a fine cello. Finding the ideal combination of these qualities is both the desire of the player and a challenge for the dealer. With decades of experience serving demanding players, teachers, professionals, and their students, we understand the desire to find an instrument that delivers the type of sound that not only satisfies, but will also challenge and inspire.
Basses
read moreToday the double bass is called upon to multi-task like no other member of the bowed instrument family. It is the foundation of the string orchestra, symphony orchestra, concert band and chamber ensemble, and a solo instrument and member of the rhythm section in multiple genres including jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, rock, folk, rockabilly, tango and more. It is versatile even in the method of sounding the note, in arco or pizzicato. This great variety of musical styles and playability demands that the bass deliver an equally variable quality of sound.
