I am the Founder and Director of Counseling at The Green House in Indianapolis, where we see a variety of clients for issues including relationship concerns, pre-marital counseling, adoption, depression, anxiety, trauma, divorce, and grief and loss. I not only mentor the counselors who work with me there, but I also provide consultation for other therapists who want to grow their adoption expertise and Brainspotting practices.
About Us
read moreBoth therapeutically and personally, I am committed to never stop learning and growing. I am regularly reading half a dozen non-fiction books at a time, many due directly to a client need. I believe that therapists should have a well-stocked toolbox to meet the individual needs of each client. I do not have a single approach, rather I strive to find what fits best for each individual client, meeting them where they are, and respecting their personal pace. Often I am able to use the "specialized" trainings I have for one type of client with several other clients as well, for example using theories for couples counseling with individuals wanting to understand their relationships more and learn how to create healthier relationships in the future.

Have you noticed yourself looking away or up or somewhere else when really thinking about something you are saying or want to say, particularly when the subject is loaded emotionally? As a therapist, I notice this all the time. Clients often become unnecessarily self-conscious about it and force themselves to make eye contact with me. While their gaze continues to drift back to these spots, they do not allow themselves to hold the spot.

read moreThe Bully Book: A workbook for kids coping with bullies (2016) is a simple therapeutic tool to help children process a personal experience with bullying. With about 77% of students reporting being bullied, this sorely needed self-help book is designed specifically for children to complete and make their own. Despite programs and policies designed to reduce bullying, incidences are only increasing. Working through this book-with either professional guidance or a parent's encouragement, can help a child move from feeling like a victim to feeling empowered, capable, and confident.

I meet people where they are to join them in their journey to more whole-hearted living and conscious relationships. Although at times, small changes may seem inconsequential, each moves you closer to your goals. Step by step you are creating the life you want. It is a pleasure to join you in this exciting journey. Relationship improvement, solutions to specific problems, and reductions in distress are some of the common benefits of therapy.

read moreThe second in the series of therapeutic workbooks to help kids cope is The Loss Book (2017). Because grief and loss are so complicated, The Loss Book is longer and more comprehensive than The Bully Book was. Loss for a child could be the death of a pet, grandparent, sibling, or other friend or family member; moving; losing a special security blanket or stuffed animal; changing schools; divorce; and even the birth of a new sibling. Gayle Swift: When loss crashes into our lives, it hits us hard. This is especially true for children.

Established clients can schedule a teleconference by phone or videoconference. It is important to recognize that there may be a limit to confidentiality when using such technology, depending on your location. Clients who live outside of the Indianapolis Metro area find this to be a helpful option for scheduling appointments. Potential clients outside of the state of Indiana may contact me to determine if teleconferencing would be appropriate and if I can be licensed in your state.
