Buffalo City is a municipality located on the E coast of Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, at the coordinates of (27. 16 E, 33. 19 S) It was set up in 2000 after South Africa's re-organisation of municipal areas, and includes East London, Bhisho and King William's Town, as well as the huge townships of Mdantsane and Zwelitsha. It is part of the Amatole District Municipality. The municipality is named after the Buffalo River, at whose mouth lies the only river port in South Africa.
