In Spring 2001, Sylvan Ventures began a separate business unit to build a turnkey virtual school program located on a dedication to the best educational standards, with full accountability. The firm started operations of its 1st schools in two states in the Fall of 2002. In September of 2004, Connections Academy was sold to an investor group led by Apollo Management, L. P. The firm now operates tuition-free public schools under management contracts from charter schools or school districts in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan.
