Community Blood Center
Community Center in Olathe, KS
A generation of Kansas Citians has grown up with Community Blood Center. They know if they, or someone they love requirements blood in an emergency, Community Blood Center will make sure it's there. That is what Community Blood Center does. But that hasn't always been the case. Over forty years ago there was no centralized blood collection and distribution agency to cover the greater Kansas City area and its surrounding counties. Instead, hospitals had to collect their own blood.

About Us
read moreRed cells, white cells and platelets are made in the marrow of bones, especially the vertebrae, ribs, hips, skull and sternum. Plasma is a pale yellow mixture of water, proteins and salts. One of the functions of plasma is to act as a carrier for blood cells, nutrients, enzymes and hormones. Red cells are disc-shaped cells containing hemoglobin, which enables the cells to pick up and deliver oxygen to all parts of the body. Platelets are small cells in the blood that control bleeding. They form clusters to plug small holes in blood vessels and assist in the clotting process.
