Defoor Center
Venue in Atlanta, GA
Neighborhood legend is that the original building, a farm house built in the 1800's and labeled The Old Stone House, served as a Civil War hospital. Parts of the early structure are still visible inside our lobby today. The Crooked Road is the nickname the soldiers called the street that is now known as Defoor Avenue. After extended research at The Atlanta History Center, we currently have situated the Old Stone House on a map dated 1841. Several of the neighbors were the Howell's who operated Howell's Mill and the Defoor's who developed Defoor's Ferry and later lived on Chattahoochee Avenue.
