read moreAlong with many people, I had been sensing a lack of "seize the moment, disruptive, take over" type advertising lately. It is not a bad thing, I was writing it off to the usual reasons of companies not spending as much, or it's too silly in a time when companies should be understanding what their customers want. Old Spice went ahead to infiltrate the many available channels, all at once, in order to really dominate in front of large crowds - Old Spice, an unlikely company with not much to lose and overdue for some freshness - ahem.

There is a challenge today to perceive the difference between when it is appropriate to have something appear real or fake. I think this style guide will help a little when approaching the concept of real vs fake. Overall - When someone invests themselves in something, and spends a long time working with real resources, that is real. If you can tell an object, or product, or event took a while to design well, and seems there is no way to be further designed to make life better for both those creating it and experiencing it, including the big picture, then it is real.

read moreNew at design is casual is a new macbook pro loaded with cs4 and an ipod touch, the makings of a great mobile studio. Before, I was tied to my desk for major development (And I still will be for many things). Now I have the ability to visit clients and show on screen demos, work from coffee shops, and even work from other cities! I think this is a good development as it comes with the added bonus of creating iphone/ipod touch apps. I have been approved by Apple to develop for iphone/ipod touch and am ramping up for this next wave of users doing just about everything with these devices.

I have been getting more involved in social apps - Facebook, LinkedIn, Digg, and Flickr just to name a few. It is only a matter of time before anyone can utilize all of these services together for a global takeover or at least provide a media overload. New at design is casual, along with customizing the themes and templates behind these online identities, and teaching others how to get on board, well, I have been taking online classes on iTunes U. Free education, I figure once you pay how to learn, you realize that you can learn for free.

Our experience and its power to move us forward, hold us back, and drive our decisions, has personally affected me in dealing with computers. I would like to share a few things that I am surprised to find in the garage, or see on my screen after all these years. I have some antique computer parts, software, and gadgets around. I think it's great, because these things are really not even that old, and yet they feel ancient.
