About Us
read moreCataract treatment is one of our specialties at our clinic. At DiStefano Eye Center, we can provide you with the treatments and procedures that you need to take care of your cataracts and help you to see clearly again. The eye works very similarly to the way that a camera works. Over a period of time, the lens in our eyes can become cloudier, which can prevent the necessary light from getting through our eyes to see clearly. When these lenses become blurred enough to cause significant amounts of vision, that is referred to as a cataract.
Dry Eyes
read moreDry eye syndrome may or may not be curable, dependent on the cause, but the symptoms can be managed to decrease the associated discomfort. Artificial tears can be prescribed to help lubricate the eye and alleviate the dry, itchy feeling. Restasis is a prescription eye drop that can increase your eyes' natural ability to produce tears by decreasing the swelling in the eye. It comes as an emulsion that is usually applied to each eye twice a day. DiStefano Eye Center is pleased to offer our patients PROKERA, a new treatment for chronic Dry Eye that heals the surface of your eye (cornea) and returns your eye to a normal, healthy state.
Eye Exams
read moreA comprehensive eye exam is the foundation for the proper care of your eyes. At DiStefano Eye Center, your exam will typically include a medical history, report of current symptoms, functional vision tests, an assessment of your refraction and an inspection of the different structures of your eyes to determine your eye health status. All of these elements are important to present a complete understanding of your vision and to determine if additional specialized tests are required. Once your examination is complete, we will discuss our findings with you in detail, answer all your questions and schedule or perform any additional testing that is necessary.
Glaucoma
read moreGlaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve which transmits the images you see from the eye to the brain. The optic nerve is made up of many nerve fibers (like an electric cable with its numerous wires). Glaucoma damages nerve fibers, which can cause blind spots and vision loss. Glaucoma has to do with the pressure inside the eye, known as intraocular pressure (IOP). When the aqueous humor (a clear liquid that normally flows in and out of the eye) cannot drain properly, pressure builds up in the eye.
