Friends Of The Berkeley Public

Library in Berkeley, CA
Library in Berkeley, CA The Berkeley Public Library Foundation would like to thank the Berkeley Community for its overwhelming support for the eighth Annual Authors Dinner event held on February 6, 2010. The event was a large success, raising more money for the Library Foundation than any previous year. We could not have done this without the support from all of our wonderful guests and volunteers, generous event sponsors and in-kind donors, and delightful authors and guests of honor.

Berkeley Public Library Foundation
read moreThe Berkeley Public Library Foundation raises private contributions that boost our strong public funding. Donors to our recent Neighborhood Libraries Campaign generously gave more than $3 million to outfit the renewed Claremont, North, South, and West branches. Your donations give our libraries the power to try new ideas and to bring everyone in our community into the library and into the future together.
Berkeley Public Library Foundation
read moreIn the early 1990s, Berkeley's Central Library-a national landmark-and its four branches were among the busiest in California, but suffering from decades of neglect. The City's Board of Library Trustees determined that the system was worn out, overcrowded, seismically unsafe, and unacceptably inaccessible to the disabled. Community leaders responded with a plan to restore all five libraries to vibrant community centers able to meet the needs of our diverse community. They began with a campaign to expand and refurbish the Central Library, fueled in 1996 by a $30 million bond measure approved by Berkeley voters.
