He speedily earned a reputation for creating several of the best signs in the area. His wife Nancy, a public school teacher, left her teaching position to become the bookkeeper. Their son Paul joined the firm after graduating college and worked with his parents to build the business. Eventually they were able to hire additional staff, which allowed them to understand the growing demand for their services. Stan and Nancy retired in 1976 after developing Garrett sign into a long founded firm; leaving the management to their son.
