Mental Health Services in Los Angeles, CA
Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center, situated in the Echo Park-Silver Lake community of Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization delivering acute in-patient, domestic and out-patient services to mentally sick adolescents and adults. It was established with the belief that those with little or no resources should have approach to the same best quality services available as those with the capability to pay. Gateways was a pioneer in the provision of community-based services to the mentally sick, opening its 1st 12-bed facility in 1953. A new campus, nestled in park-like surroundings not far from Dodger Stadium, was opened in 1961 and dedicated by Eleanor Roosevelt.
