read moreGlobal Village Academy has a diverse student population and staff, with native-speaking teachers coming from all over the world. Students learn core content in English and their second language. GVA has smaller class sizes and an active and engaged parent community. Along with rigorous academics, students participate in International Day celebrations, speech festivals, and cultural performances. We come from a Hispanic family who speaks Spanish. We love that our kids learn proper Spanish and love and embrace the language of their grandparents.

read moreImmersion is the method by which we all learn our native language. As infants, we are surrounded by people speaking a specific language, like we are surround by the air we breathe, and we learn our first language rapidly and with ease. Immersion education in a second language takes the same approach. At Global Village Academy, students spend their day immersed in a second language as they use their natural ability to learn the new language. Learning a second language in this way when young is much easier than learning it later in life.

read moreEach of the three Global Village Academies has their own respective governing board and up to three members of each local Board are also selected to serve on the Network Board, known as the Global Village Academy Collaborative (GVAC). The GVAC Board governs the central network administrative team that serves all GVA schools and provides strategic planning, policy development, leadership mentoring, all financial and payroll services, human resource and benefits management, facilities financing acquisition services, all technology support, academic monitoring and support as well as central operational services.

read moreI have made lifelong friends as we have been together since Kindergarten. We have been thorough strict Chinese lessons, pages of Chinese character writing, and language learning together. Speaking a second language helps me with talking to other people. My dream is to be a doctor, and because I can communicate in Chinese, I will be able to help more people. I am proud to be bilingual. It is a part of me, it will help me in my future, and it makes me happier. During my nine years at GVA, I have had teachers from Chile, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, and Peru.
