There was no Wisconsin Synod church when Doris and Harold Fischer and Doris sister, Vera Kuether, moved here from Des Moines in June 1950. Vera joined Bethany Lutheran, a Missouri Synod church, because that is where her fiance, Howard Williams, had been confirmed. But, although the Fischers attended services at Bethany, they retained their membership at Lincoln Heights, a WELS church in Des Moines. The sisters father, the Rev. Herman A. Kuether, kept them informed of the developing rift between the two Lutheran bodies, and through Lincoln Heights pastor.
