For more then twenty five years, Chabad has offered an range of programs, services, advice, and networking for the Jewish community of West Michigan. The Chabad movement reached Michigan in 1929 when the previous Rebbe visited Detroit during his trip to the States. And almost immediately founded a presence. In the year 1977, the need for a Chabad in West Michigan became evident. Rabbi Yosef Weingarten and his wife, Sarah, were appointed by Chabad of Michigan with the blessing from the Rebbe to establish Chabad in Grand Rapids.
