Beginning in 1865 burying the dead from the Civil War, the Oliver family has served the community of Norfolk, Virginia in a compassionate and dependable manner. Five generations of Oliver's have continued this tradition for over 135 years. Dedicated service to the community began with great-great-uncle Sterling T. Oliver building his 1st funeral home in downtown Norfolk, founding a tradition of excellence in funeral service that continued with his nephew, H. D. Oliver and subsequently our father, Harry D. Oliver II and our uncle, James B. Oliver.

As one of the oldest businesses in the area and one of the oldest family owned funeral homes in the country our dedication and commitment to those we serve has always been paramount. Our story began at the end of the Civil War with Sterling T. Oliver, a furniture maker prior to the war, providing caskets and service to those in need. The tradition of excellence and community service established by our founders has now spanned over 150 years and five generation.
