Doctors & Clinics in Sacramento, CA
Doctors & Clinics in Sacramento, CA The barriers to health are deeply rooted in our culture. The wellness of our families and our communities has not improved at the same rate as technological advances, health care reform and specialized medicine. Women are targeted with a myriad of health promotion, disease prevention programs by the health care industry. The health care industry, with its own set of priorities, doesn't necessarily understand or address the true health requirements and concerns of women.

read moreThe philosophy of Women's Health Specialists is to promote positive images of women and provide our clients with a new perspective of their bodies and health. We give women the tools to evaluate their authentic health care needs - images of women not based on a societal myth, but based on women's reality and experience. We provide women with health information so they can become knowledgeable about their normal life stages. Our goal is to empower women through support, education, self-help and services so that they can make the best health care decisions for themselves.
About Us
read moreKatrina Maczen-Cantrell began her work at Women's Health Specialists in 1985 as a volunteer. Her innovative vision and extraordinary leadership has helped WHS emerge as a model for health care delivery and community engagement. Inspired by her grounding in Native American culture, Katrina has applied indigenous attitudes and techniques to her mission of keeping women's health in women's hands with the support of her colleagues, community and organization. She continues to work toward this goal by focusing on the pursuit of cultural and economic self-determination for marginalized people while providing reproductive health services and education to all communities.
Educational Programs
read moreDani, of Women's Health Specialists, is a dynamic speaker. She has a hands on approach, keeping the students engaged. She encourages student involvement and creates an excitement for the students to want to take charge of their own reproductive health. I would definitely recommend Dani's presentation to anyone inquiring about reproductive health education. The Speaker's Bureau is one of our most popular services. Representatives from the health center will speak to community groups, classes, or organizations on women's health and reproductive issues and the services offered by the health center.

read moreAdoption Choices of Northern California is a private, non-profit licensed adoption facilitator which assists both birth parents and prospective adoptive parents to engage in a successful adoption experience. We provide adoption facilitation of newborns. We believe that there are many successful avenues to adoption. We respect the rights of adoptive parents and birth parents to pursue and plan the type of adoption which best suits their individual and combined needs. Our goal is to offer information, counseling, advocacy and support to all those involved in the adoption process so that each adoption is imbued with dignity, and each participant is treated with caring and respect.
Abortion
read moreI just wanted to thank you for all your help and support. I would like to thank Joy for all the phone calls and answering of 'stupid' questions, and also to the two Christinas for basically holding my hand through the procedure. Women like me are very lucky to have places like Women's Health. Abortion became legal in 1973 by the US the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. The Supreme Court said that a woman's right to privacy could not be violated by any state. Abortion could no longer be legislated by the states, with the exception of second trimester abortion.

Birth Control
read moreYour choice of a birth control method is a significant decision concerning your health, your sexuality, and your life. Many encounter contradictory information regarding the effectiveness and safety of various methods of birth control. Effectiveness is the rate of successfully preventing pregnancy per 1000 women over a period of a year. If a method is 99.5% effective, that means that 5 out of 1000 women will become pregnant. The lower rate listed above is the actual percent of women using the method, or actual use.
