On May 10, 1956, a group of teachers held a meeting to organize a federal credit union. Nominations and elections were held for Board of Directors, credit committee and a League and Credit Union National Association. Membership was limited to employees of Laredo Independent School District, Webb County Schools, Laredo Junior College and the immediate family of those employees. By December 1956, membership had increased to 236 members. On September 1, 1959, the credit union started providing payroll deduction service to its members.
