In 1928 Lewis Lehmer opened the Golden West Service Station at the corner of Galindo Street and Cowell Road in Concord, California. With the aid of his son Erv Lehmer, they started to market used cars. Their business attracted the attention of General Motors, and in 1936 Erv became Contra Costa County's 1st Oldsmobile dealer. Erv was only 23 years old at the time. Erv expanded the business by adding the GMC Franchise in 1938. By 1951, Lehmer's had outgrown their facility, and a new dealership was constructed in the middle of Downtown Concord.
