Cockroaches pose an indirect threat to humans with their potential to transmit disease. They will consume almost anything, including contaminated food. Bacteria from the contaminated food can remain in the cockroach digestive system for weeks, to later contaminate human food and utensils. While there are over 3, 500 species of cockroach in the world, two species are particularly troublesome in NE Kansas: the German Cockroach and the Oriental Cockroach.
