
In Western medicine, the diagnosis and treatment of illness is thought of in terms of tangible biochemical terms. Chinese medicine not only sees the outward biochemical changes but considers illness a result of imbalances in the universal life force called chi. This force is believe to be in a constant state of flux. We know that within this state of flux there are two polar opposites called yin and yang, symbolized by a gracefully divided circle. This circle illustrates how two opposites together represent the entire being.
