This is the issue with millions of kids. And this is the reason why, in 1974, a concerned group of parents joined forces to form The New Community School. These parents decided that intelligent middle and high school students with specific learning differences deserved an educational experience that both addressed their requirements and challenged their minds. Decades later, The New Community School carries on this mission of improving lagging language and math skills while preparing students for college and a successful future.

read moreFor over 40 years, our school has filled a unique role in the education of middle and high school students with specific difficulties learning language, otherwise known as dyslexia. Our students are bright and capable. They come here to improve basic skills they were not successfully taught in earlier schooling. Unfortunately for them, the lack of the basic skills often takes a toll on both their performance and their self-confidence. However, our students are resilient and creative. Once they see their skills improve, they seem to sense they can do even more.
Tutoring
read moreTutoring provides the opportunity for students to improve and strengthen their skills in a variety of areas. Structured, systematic, multi-sensory language instruction develops skill in decoding, spelling, handwriting, and reading fluency. Using research-based instruction, master strategies to use before, during, and after reading that result in improved comprehension, independence, and confidence. While learning the complex process of writing, from idea to sentence, paragraph, and essay, students are challenged to think critically and express themselves with a clear sense of purpose and audience.
