Nielson Communications is a family-owned business with its roots firmly set up in Sturgeon Bay under the firm name of Bay Electronics. Bay Electronics originally served area shipyards and such clients as the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Coast Guard with navigation and communication systems. Today the firm continues to be involved in the marine electronic industry. Seeing a need for cost-effective mobile communications, Nielson Communications was founded by entering the Specialized Mobile Radio industry in 1989, with the 1st two systems going on the air in Door County.
