Eating Disorders
read moreWe help women, men, and children who are struggling with all aspects of food and body related difficulties. These include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, chronic dieting, body hatred and dysmorphia, compulsive eating, compulsive exercising, food obsessions and phobias, and confusion about nutrition. Because eating issues are multi-dimensional, we will explore with you any related factors such as biology, psychological development, family history, current relationships, emotional and cognitive factors, and cultural norms.
Substance Abuse
read moreSeeking help for problems with drugs and alcohol is difficult for most people. Feeling like you have "lost control" of your substance use is typically accompanied by a sense of shame and low self-esteem. These painful feelings often lead people to deny, minimize, and avoid their substance use and abuse difficulties. At Lakeview Center for Psychotherapy, we take an empathic, caring, and flexible approach to problems with drugs and alcohol. We recognize that each individual is unique and there is not one solution to these problems.
Couples Therapy
read moreCouples therapy focuses on the relationship between two people. Research has demonstrated that many couples wait too long before seeking help, so we encourage you to contact us if you are wondering about the health of your relationship and before harmful patterns have become entrenched. At Lakeview Center for Psychotherapy, our therapists are trained to help you and your partner identify problematic areas in your relationship and formulate new ways of understanding and connecting with each other.
Trauma
read moreTrauma is primarily physiological.it is something that happens initially to our bodies and our instincts. Only then do its effects spread to our minds, emotions and spirits. After experiencing a traumatic event or events one often feels overwhelmed, hypervigilant, anxious, unsafe in one's own body, ashamed, and avoidant of specific situations. Memories may seem unclear or missing, but the act of remembering can feel re-traumatizing. Trauma-informed therapies offer a safe experience in which to address the realities of trauma, to heal from them and to restore a sense of empowerment and control in your life.
