Since 1984, I have hand cleaned, spun, dyed, wove, knit and sewn qiveut fiber into every conceivable design. I studied conceptual art and weaving at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. It was there that I fell in love with the Musk Ox which was being studied by the University. The qiveut grows only in the summer under their amazingly long coarse hair and they shed only once in the spring. After combing out the qiveut fur from their undercoat one gets only about 3 lb of yarn for every 5 or 6 lbs of wool. The low quantities of qiveut wool collected and the lack of stable Musk Ox farming.
