Our Lady Of Sacred Heart

Private School in Rockford, IL
Private School in Rockford, IL Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Academy (OLSHA) started 11 years ago in the basement of the Chambers' family home. A very tiny group of home-schooling families, desiring a quality education rooted in an orthodox Catholic philosophy, came together to consider the feasibility of a more formalized school. After many long meetings and novenas to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, we opened our doors to eight eager students in the Fall of 1998. The 1999 - 2004 school year brought with it new students [total 60 students then] and an ever-decreasing classroom size!

read moreEach of the core disciplines has its role to play in the building up of the whole and each has its own more specific set of objectives for the different stages at which it is being taught. Quite simply, at each stage there are things we want children to know, things they ought to be able to do, and habits, dispositions, or aptitudes they ought to have acquired or be acquiring. Considering these in detail and in light of the general objectives of each subject, and considering each subject in light of the overall end, teachers in specific subjects and at specific stages can see how each stage builds upon the previous stage, how their work contributes to the 'finished product', and how they can tailor specific classes and methods to serve these ideals more effectively.

Our multi-sensory, developmental, and sequential program prepares our future saints and scholars for success in the academy's Kindergarten. Instilling a personal love for Jesus through the Catholic faith permeates the entire culture and curriculum of each preschool day. Our Montessori-inspired atrium space and certified Catechesis of the Good Shepherd teacher nurture the spiritual life of our students.

We make it our mission to prepare our students to triumph over the materialism and despair that pervade our culture and to accept our Lord's offer to have life and have it abundantly. Our classical curriculum combines a broad, liberal arts education with a strong emphasis on the development of Christian virtues and an appreciation of beauty.
