Petra was set up in sixth century B. C. As the esteemed capital city of the Nabatean empire. She was nestled amongst the Sandstone Mountains of Jordan, and renowned as the center of commerce for the Northern Arabian kingdom. Caravans from Giza, Bosra, Damascus, Aqaba, and the Far East would flood her pearly gates to barter for and sell the simplest necessities and the best of treasures! A. D. 106 marks the downfall of the Nabatean regime and the rise of the Roman empire. With this change our beloved Petra lost her political independence and became known as Arabia Petraea.
