
The image to the left shows Robert D. Petty, on the left, in the original facility. Prior to opening their own business, Mr. Rowan was employed as grocery director, and Mr. Petty as meat director at Fikes Food Stores. During World War I, Mr. Petty was a store keeper 1st class in the U. S. Navy where he learned the food business. To finance the new store the two entrepreneurs pooled their savings of $750 each and borrowed $25, 000 from the Fourth National Bank and $2, 500 from Mrs. Bailey W. Vinson, a client.
