Born and raised in Philadelphia, PMHC founder Dr. Edward K. Parnes has been a key figure in the progression of the psychiatric profession and the amalgamation of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. Deeply dedicated to improving social conditions in the city, Dr. Parnes sought to circumvent the difficult process of mental health evaluation in the early 50s, and overcome financial obstacles that thwarted access to proper treatment for the economically-disadvantaged.
