Dyslexia is often referred to as a language based learning disability that is neurological in origin and affects approximately 15-20% of the population. Its symptoms result in difficulties with language skills, particularly reading. In addition, other language skills such as spelling, writing, and speaking can be adversely affected. Individuals identified as having dyslexia display difficulties in phonemic awareness and manipulation, single-word decoding, reading fluency, reading comprehension, spelling, and/or written composition.
