Reclamation Lumber

Building Supplier in New Haven, CT
Building Supplier in New Haven, CT Reclamation Lumber, like many businesses, began as an idea. In the early 1990's this particular idea was let's buy an old barn, take it down and sell the wood. After looking at a few structures, we came across a defunct factory in our backyard. Unbeknownst to us, The Winchester Repeating Arms Factory had moved to a modern facility nearby and the old manufacturing plant was slated for demolition. After some serious sleuthing we were granted permission to reclaim the original Winchester gunstock drying shed which was comprised of a combination of materials including Southern yellow pine and Douglas fir.

About Us
read moreThe essence of sustainable architecture, in part, is the attempt to reduce the collective environmental impact of the entire building process-from planning through construction to the lifecycle of the building itself. A component of this process is the reuse or recycling of building material. At Reclamation Lumber we've discovered, somewhat inadvertently, that our business embodies many of the central tenets of the green building movement-reducing the pressure to cut new forest and recycling existing building material that might otherwise have been destined for a landfill.
Our Story
read moreOur work of selectively "mining the industrial forest", reclaiming and remanufacturing vintage timber arises from this challenge. Sourcing and strategizing the adaptive reuse of this precious material has been both immensely challenging and rewarding. From the lengthy process of inspecting, acquiring, shipping, de-nailing, sorting, grading and inventorying of the material we have a fine sense of its highlights and best aesthetic and structural usage. We recognize the uniqueness of each offering and enjoy facilitating the progression of the material through our hands to the satisfied end user.
