Practice
read moreTeen who are athletes, musicians, dancers, among other activities, practice one or two hours a day, many year round! Driving is the only daily activity that can get your teen killed. No amount of practice is too much. The chart below dramatically shows that the more a teen drives, the less likely they are to have a crash. Experience makes better and safer drivers. Your teen needs to practice, practice, practice with you. Before driving with your teen, sit in the passenger seat while an experienced driver is behind-the-wheel so that you get the road perspective from the right side.
Behind-the-Wheel Training
read moreSafeway provides three, two-hour behind-the-wheel lessons (6 hours total). Each lesson has its own curriculum and objectives. We have found the sequence and timing of lessons described below produces a confident and competent driver who is eager to drive. The first lesson, our basic lesson, should be scheduled after receiving the hard-card photo permit and after having had 5 hours of practice driving. The second lesson should be scheduled 4 or more weeks after the first lesson and after an additional 15 hours of practice driving.
