Medical Center in Laredo, TX Gateway Community Health Center is funded by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Center is a 501 (c)3) private, non-profit corporation with a governing board of 15 directors whose responsibility is to oversee the overall operations of the Center. The Center is situated in Laredo, Texas situated on the U. S. Mexico border approximately 150 miles S of San Antonio. Gateway started operations in 1963 as a migrant health center as part of the City of Laredo Health Department and in October 1989 reorganized as an independent not-for-profit organization.

Since 1989, GCHC has been a local leader in establishing and providing excellence in health care for underserved population members of Webb County, Texas. The organization began as a sub-component of the local health department in 1963, serving only migrants in the area. As need grew, the organization responded. In 1989, GCHC became independent of the local health department as a 501 (c) (3) Corporation.
