The medical device industry continues to expand despite the nation's economic struggles. In 2002 the US accounted for $72 billion of the global sales in the medical device industry. In 2006 California employed over one hundred, 000 medical device employees, of which more than 17, 000 worked in Orange County. Orange County holds the nation's biggest cluster of biomedical and diagnostic firms with over 250 such firms. This growth is accompanied by a need for individuals who are properly trained in regulatory affairs and global compliance standards.
