Since 1961, STC has been the primary service supplier for Motorola in the Rio Grande Valley. The firm was established by Harry Ewing and Mike Haden. They opened a tiny shop on N tenth street in McAllen with B. J. Ewing handling the books. In those days with radio was our primary focus, vacuum tubes and dyna-motors were the latest technology and frequently required service. There were no repeaters, no trunking system and a portable radio was bigger than a lunch box. Each firm, police or fire department owned their own base station and short tower.
