About Us
read moreFor the past 15 years, I've been helping people change their lives for the better. I have worked with a variety of people, from all walks of life who have come to me for help with various problems. My style is collaborative. Together we do a deep dive exploration of your inner life. Why? Your external life, your general day to day, is in full view. So far, the answers have not been found there. The idea is that the roots of your struggle lie beneath the surface, often out of awareness (which is why we find ourselves repeating our same misery in different relationships).
Depression & Anxiety
read moreDepression and anxiety may seem like opposites but I view them as related, functioning in similar ways, to keep big feelings at bay. I think of depression as a "pressing down" of feelings. Feelings that you maybe aren't yet aware of but have an inkling might be there under the surface. Anxiety can be like a lid on a pot of boiling water, it's shaking intensely as all the feelings bubble and boil underneath. Our work together helps you get to the underlying feelings that are currently out of your awareness.
Clinical Consultation
read moreWhether you are an early career therapist or a seasoned clinician, you probably (hopefully!) already know the value of good consultation. The nature of our work is very insular (especially if you work in a private practice setting). If you are like me, you know the only way to truly grow in this work takes a lot of self-reflection both personally and professionally. It's can be easier and more comfortable to hide away in our offices, unseen and unchallenged but that is often the start of a precarious path.
Therapy for Men
read moreThere are unique ways in which men and male identified people are getting a raw deal. The negative messaging that men experience on a day to day basis is deeply damaging and most of us don't even know its happening. If you fail to meet these (impossible) standards, you are not a "real man", you won't find love and you have no value. As men strive to fulfill these expectations, set either at home or by the larger society (often both) they have to disconnect from critical parts of their humanity in order to achieve superhuman status.
New Client Q & A
read moreIf you are new to therapy or just new to therapy with me, it's natural that you might have some questions. I am not contracted with any insurance companies currently. I can provide the paperwork you will need to submit to your insurance company for "out of network" benefits. It's worth checking with your insurance plan to see if they will reimburse you some percentage of your cost. I try to meet clients where they are at. Some people need more "active" listening (asking questions, making comments), others need more space to think, reflect and feel - I am comfortable either way and with everything in between.
Therapy for Young Adults
read moreSometimes the lingering pain of childhood hurts or complicated family dynamics get in the way of moving forward. If you suffered childhood abuse or trauma, that can pose an even bigger challenge to the business of daily life and creating the future you want. You'd like to be more confident, sure of yourself, able to connect with the people you want to connect with. You worry there is something wrong with you. That there is something about you people just don't like or like you for all the wrong reasons.
Pregnancy
read moreWhether your loss was due to a miscarriage, stillbirth, an embryo transfer that didn't take, or termination - the loss of your baby and the dreams you had for your life together are emotionally devastating. The death of your dream baby can leave you feeling alone in a world of grief, like your entire world has fallen apart. Sadness is just one piece of the puzzle. There is also shock, numbness, anger, shame, guilt, confusion, envy, longing, anxiety and of course, the fear of trying again. The loss of any pregnancy is often an invisible loss.
