In June 1992 a family friend asked Perian to build a wedding cake for their son's wedding. Another 1st, and the beginnings of Sweet-Perfections. Following her initial successes, Perian started a fevered quest to learn all she could about cake decorating and other forms of sugar art. She took all of the advanced cake decorating courses provided in the community and started traveling throughout the mid-W attending conventions of the International Cake Exploration Society (ICES) observing many other decorators, attending classes presented by several of the countries premier cake.
