The reading series enables playwrights to hear their words come off the page to the stage. Selected plays will be assigned a manager who will cast the play and negotiate attendance at rehearsals and possible re-writes, if any, with the manager. If the playwright has a manager in mind, every effort will be made to use that manager. Usually 2-4 rehearsals are held prior to the reading. The readings are held on Sunday afternoons (usually 2 PM) at the Vortex Theatre.

They include a baton twirler, a fundamentalist snake handler, an ex-rodeo rider and an actress willing to go to any length to get a job. The first production in the Vortex's Virtual Season is Talking With by Jane Martin and directed by Tim Croften.
