Founder of the Alaska Children's Heart Center Dr. Wellmann grew up on a farm in a tiny town in Northwest Ohio. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Notre Dame in 1988, and he graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1992. He stayed in Cincinnati to complete a residency in Pediatrics and Fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at the renowned Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. When he completed his training in 1998, he moved to Alaska to start practice. He was employed at Pediatric Cardiology of Alaska until 2006.

Every month we head north to Fairbanks to see our patients that live in the more northern parts of Alaska. These clinics provide us with opportunities to see patients in their environments as well as making travel more convenient and less time consuming to receive their care. We often receive referrals for patients from the southern parts of Alaska.
