Martial Arts Club in Los Angeles, CA Karate training is divided into three aspects: basics (kihon) sparring (kumite) and forms (kata) Kihon entails the practice of the basics of stance, blocking, punching, kicking, striking, moving and stance. Kumite involves prearranged attacks and defenses at a lower level progressing to free sparring (free exchange of techniques with a partner) at higher levels. Kata are the prearranged sequences of defensive and offensive techniques that preserve and encode our style. Classes selection in length from a half an hour, an hour, and 1. 5 hours. Classes are held three times per week. We recommend attending two to three classes per week (especially in the beginning) if possible, as much of the learning is by rote and repetition in the beginning.

Class days and times
read morePer decision of the Instruction Committee, one night's classes every week will emphasize the study of basic and advanced kata. Nidan and higher level kata will be studied in the black belt class at the discretion of the instructor. Assistants: 1) be at dojo 15 minutes before class; 2) know dojo etiquette and first lesson outlines. Instructors: 1) Ensure that visitors are greeted; 2) don't forget to note class topic on schedule. Instructors/assistants: 1) Arrange your own swaps with other instructors/assistants if you can't make it; 2) inform Stan by the 14th of each month about special scheduling requirements and class preferences for the following month (see WLA instructor/assistant scheduling information table in the afisk_instructors Yahoo!
