King George III of England used a card in 1768 as a promotional item for his coronation. His likeness was on one side of the card while a reproduction of his coat of arms was on the opposite side. His purpose in distributing the card was to promote nice will. George Washington used metal buttons engraved with his initials to promote his campaign. In 1840 William Henry Harrison used wooden nickels in his campaign for the presidency.
