Michael started his work with animals as an animal caretaker at Sulphur Creek Nature Center in Hayward, California, which supplies rescue, care and release for injured or orphaned native California wildlife such as songbirds, birds of prey, foxes, coyotes, opossum, reptiles and amphibians, and fish. As an animal caretaker, Michael was involved in a range of kinds of wildlife rehabilitation including: animal husbandry, oiled bird care, nutrition and animal handling. During his time at the facility he become one of a handful of individuals able to engage in direct interaction with the resident coyotes and wolves.
