Klein's Deli has been a popular gathering place for the Potrero Hill crowd since Deborah Klein established the deli in 1979. In 1990, Avery McGinn, who opened the store with Deborah, became its current owner. At the middle of Klein's success is the quality and the range of their sandwiches which are big and imaginative and named after famous women of the 20th century. Frida Kahlo (chicken salad with mango chutney, almonds, raisins, a dash of curry, lettuce and tomato on whole wheat) and Piaf.
