Memorial Christian Church

Established as a goal to University of Michigan students in 1891 by the Christian Woman's Board of Missions, using funds donated by Mrs. Sarah Hawley Scott, the church was officially called the Church of Christ. The name Memorial Christian Church, honoring her memory and others, was not officially adopted until after the church's centennial. Originally built on State Street, on the site of what is now the University of Michigan law quad, the church was moved in 1923 to its present site, across Tappan Avenue from the University's School of Business, at the corner of Hill Street.
