Learn Capoeira in New Orleans
Capoeira New Orleans was founded in December 2006 with the arrival of Mestrando Cocada, establishing the first contemporary Capoeira group on the Gulf Coast. Our mission centers on promoting Brazilian culture through Afro-Brazilian arts, particularly Capoeira, while fostering physical fitness, discipline, and personal growth in youth and adults. We operate as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, channeling resources into local and international programs that benefit over 500 students annually in New Orleans and Goioer, Paran, Brazil. Our community initiatives include free public classes, youth mentorship programs, and cultural outreach events that celebrate Capoeira's rich heritage. Under the leadership of Mestre Cocada and Instrutora Maratona, we emphasize inclusivity through programs like Distinctive Warriors, designed for youth with diverse abilities. We collaborate with local governments and nonprofits to expand access to Capoeira's transformative benefits, including confidence-building, musical education, and cultural awareness. Our organization has hosted performances at festivals nationwide and maintains partnerships with Capoeira groups in Brazil and the U.S. to strengthen global cultural connections. With over 30 years of combined experience, our instructors bring deep expertise in Capoeira's physical, musical, and historical dimensions. We maintain transparency in operations, ensuring all donations directly support student practices and community development projects. Our commitment to ethical practices and community empowerment has solidified our reputation as a trusted leader in cultural education.
