In 1933, coming out of the depression, postal employees had steady jobs but low income. Homes were selling for $2, 900. 00 in Goodyear Heights but few could put together a down payment. Consumer credit was almost non-existent. In January of 1933 the Akron postal employees formed The Akron Postal and Federal Employees Credit Union and it was chartered by the State of Ohio in March of 1933. Shares were set at a par value of $5. 00 payable by payroll deduction installments of $25 or more.

read moreBuckeye State Credit Union was formed in 1933, during the great depression, as the Akron Postal Employees Credit Union in order to serve postal workers during the worst economic period in United States history. In 1964, the credit union expanded its field of membership to federal employees working out of Summit and Medina counties, thus we were re-branded as Akron Postal and Federal Employee Credit Union. As we continued to grow, the credit union, again, transitioned in 1971 and re-branded into Ohio Federal Employees Credit Union.
