Cafe 8
Seafood Market in San Francisco, CA
One of San Francisco's oldest restaurants, run by one of the city's most prominent families, the Aliotos, this Fisherman's Wharf landmark has a long-standing reputation for great cioppino. The curbside crab stand, Caf 8, and the outdoor crab market are great for quick, inexpensive doses of San Francisco's best. For more formal surroundings, continue up the stairs to the multilevel, harbor-view dining room. Don't mess around with the menu: If you're here, you're after Dungeness crab. Cracked, caked, stuffed, or stewed, it's impossible to get your fill.

Now run by the fourth generation of the Alioto family, Alioto's is San Francisco's oldest family owned and run restaurant. In the Beginning: In 1898, young Nunzio Alioto left his family's small town of Sant'Elia in Sicily for the booming economy and richer fishing waters of San Francisco. By 1925 Nunzio began his fresh fish stall. Stall #8 sold lunchtime provisions to Italian laborers.
