Calvary Community Church was foundered in 1952 by Bishop Edward G. McLachlan. The original church was a tiny facility situated at the corner of Raymond and Whitemarsh in the city of Compton. The church went by the name of Calvary Church of Compton and was later affiliated with the Incorporated Church of God in Christ, which led to the new name: Calvary Community Church of God in Christ. The Church began out with 20 members, which consisted of mostly friends and family.
