Following the flood of 2013 in Erie, Colorado, an inspection of the dam showed a superficial crack in the downstream slope. Geotechnical drilling operations within Erie Lake Reservoir occurred as part of a pre-feasibility study to examine the potential for construction of a new dam. A total of three holes were drilled at a depth of approximately 40-50 feet below the water surface into the underlying bedrock.
