Although a tiny church, Epworth Chapel on the Green has a role to play in helping bring together once again the Wesleyan and Anglican traditions, to strengthen the vitality and orthodoxy of both. The people at Epworth work toward that end every Sunday by worshiping and learning together. Epworth's rector and pastor is the Rev. Dr. Brook Thelander, who holds a doctorate in homiletics (preaching) from Knox College, Toronto School of Theology in the University of Toronto.

What We Believe
read moreIn order that we may more perfectly express the truths in which we believe, as an organized body of believers Epworth Chapel on the Green has chosen these principles of belief as the touchstone from which we base our thoughts and discussion. There is but one living and true God, everlasting, without body, parts, or passions; of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness; the Maker and Preserver of all things both visible and invisible. And in unity of this Godhead there are three Persons of one substance, power, and eternity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Services
read moreFour scripture portions are read aloud and provide the basis for the sermon of the day. Prayers are adapted from The Book of Common Prayer, and the people may add their own unscripted intercessions and thanksgivings. The people sing hymns with solid theological content and musical quality, especially (but not only) from Wesleyan and Anglican experience. The sermon and Holy Communion integrate and apply the Wesleyan-Anglican theological emphasis upon Christ's readiness not only to forgive but also to nurture and change.
