In the 1980s, NASA researcher, David Marcarian looked for a way to evaluate muscle fatigue experienced by astronauts when using the simulator. As a result of his research and work with surface Electromyography (sEMG), a new hand controller was developed resulting in a decrease in fatigue. Years later, Oregon chiropractor, Dr. William Mcllvaine, challenged Marcarian to find a way to apply this technology to chiropractic, in an effort to better detect and monitor muscle tension patterns associated with subluxations, a common nerve problem associated with the spine.
